Current research interests
Most of my recent research falls into the area of Combinatorial Algebra.  Its ancestor, Combinatorial Group Theory, includes the following basic areas: (i) groups presented by generators and relators, (ii) growth in groups, (iii) the Burnside Problem, and (iv) computational and algorithmic aspects, such as the Word Problem.  Combinatorial Algebra extends these problems to include other algebraic structures such as associative algebras, Lie algebras, and Jordan algebras.

Background
Before joining the University of Western Ontario in 1999, I held various positions at the University of Alabama, the University of Alberta, the University of Oxford, and the Università degli Studi di Palermo. I have also made extended research visits to the University of Auckland, the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Lunds Universitet, and the University of New Brunswick.
