Math 4959B/9141B : Commutative Algebra

Winter 2021.

Time and Location: MWF 9.30-10.20am SSC-3028 and Zoom.

Precise delivery method will be adapted to the course participants after the first meeting.

Prerequisite: Math 4123A Rings and Modules or consent of the instructor.

Method of Evaluation: Six assignments worth 10 % each. Final exam worth 40%

Missed assignments: Use an SRA or contact academic counseling. I will give you a short extension once you have done this.

Syllabus: Localisation, tensor product, Jacobson rings and the nullstellensatz. Integral extensions. Primary decomposition of modules. Dedekind domains. Introduction to dimension theory. Applications to algebraic geometry.

If you miss the Final Exam, please contact your faculty’s Academic Counselling Office as soon as you are able to do so. They will assess your eligibility to write the Special Exam (the name given by the university to a makeup Final Exam).
