Project Requirements
All projects submitted for the competition must meet the requirements of their categories. Submissions that do not meet one or more requirements will not be considered for judging.
Poster Requirements
All posters submitted for the competition must meet the following requirements. Submissions that do not meet one or more requirements will not be considered for judging.
- Size of poster: 24 inch by 36 inch
- Margin: at least 1 inch on all four sides.
- File format: jpeg with resolution 200-600 dpi
- Orientation: Portrait or Landscape
- Font Size: The font size must not be less than 11 pt.
Content should be clear and legible for a reader standing at a 50-cm distance from the poster on a wall. Since type and color can impact the visibility of different fonts, there is no minimum/maximum font size, but legibility/accessibility will be a notable component of the poster’s adjudication in the Presentation judging criteria (worth 20% of the overall mark).
- Graphic limit: At least 30% and at most 50% of the poster must be filled out with graphics. This does not include white space/background, but this does include supplementary visuals such as icons, images, diagrams, and figures.
- Word count limit: We also won’t enforce a strict minimum/maximum number of words, since the complexity of the work can influence the amount of text necessary for explication, but we recommend a word count of 500-1000 words. The whole poster should be readable in 5-10 minutes to the average high school student.
- Title: Each poster must contain a title that clearly shows the topic covered in the poster. The title should be under 100 characters including subtitles if there are any.
Recommendation: The title is recommended to be located at the top of the poster and printed with a larger font size.
- Team members' information: Full names of all the members must be listed in the alphabetical order of their last name. Each name should be followed by a bracket containing the grade of the student and the school's name. E.g. John James (Grade Y, XXXX highschool).
- Mentor Information: The poster must contain the full name of the mentor followed by the (Teacher or Undergraduate Mentor, school name). E.g. Hanna Hola (Teacher Mentor, XXXX school).
Recommendation: The information of team members as well as the mentor is recommended to be posted under the title of the poster.
- Acknowledgment statements and logos: The posters must include the QR code for the competition webpage and the sponsors' logos as appearing below on this page.
- Reference list: Citations could be formatted in any existing citation style. However, the citation format and in-text citation must be consistent. Visit here for the details of different styles.
Recommendation: The recommended citation format is "amsplain". For more details visit here.
Citation of the source of graphics: Any graphics not created by the team must have their source cited. To cite a graphic on a poster, include the creator's name (artist or photographer), the title of the graphic (if available), the date of creation, the source where you found it (like a website or publication), and any relevant copyright information, usually presented as a caption directly below the image in a format consistent with your chosen citation style.
